Classic/Antique Car Repair: Brake Lights, 66 mustangs, drum brakes

Question
Dick

I have 1966 Mustang with drum brakes.

Brake Lights come on only when pedal is depressed hard. Need to have lights engage sooner in braking process.

Answer
In an unexpected coincidence, I was reading an article this morning, and learned from that that some early 66 Mustangs had the old hydraulic brake light switches, not the mechanical type I told you about adjusting.  If you have the hydraulic type, it is mounted right on the master cylinder, and cannot be adjusted. To fix your problem in that case, you'll have to replace the switch.  Just take the old one off and bring it to the part store, they can match it up.
