Classic/Antique Car Repair: points, chevelle malibu, feeler gauge

Question
I was wondering how you would set points? I have a chevelle/malibu with a 350 motor. Would like to do it myself.  Thanks for your help

Answer
Fred;
HI- well I would get a book or go to the library first this way you will know what is what. all you have to do is remove the dist. cap. than rotor  than loosen the 2 screws that hold down the points and remove the condensor too. be real carefull not to DROP any sreews down into the dist. you should not have to take them out only loosen them. than you will place the new points and cond back in the same place tighten them down snug, than with the high spot of the cam of the dist. hitting the arm on the points check that there is a gap of at least 16- 17 with a feeler gauge or the thickness of a pack of matches. it should start than you can dwell it to 28-32 degr. or set it with a feeler gauge.  ok.>>
