I have a 1970 SS396 El Camino that is restored to original.I've just recently discovered that the wheelstud holes seem to be larger than the taper of the lugnuts.Mind you ,these wheels are the original 36 yr. old wheels. Larger lugnuts with the taper larger than the hole looks like it might work.Repairing and or replacing the wheel seems to be rather expensive.7/16th's wheel studs now to 1/2 in. ,is that possible with disc in the front and drums in the rear?

Follow-up :  Standard size lugnuts will no longer work. The 7/16 ths hole is now almost 11/16ths,that is the problem. The 60 deg. taper that is on them no longer meets the hole in the wheel. It meets the hex.Now I'm sure you understand.

Answer
BOB ;  OK  wow how did they get so big. I would get new wheels , the front should not cost that much and as far as the rear  you might have to get new axels and that might cost a bit. I would not fool around with anything like welding or spacers, etc. they will never last. be safe . ok
