Classic/Antique Car Repair: 58 retractable top problem, own pace, juncture

Question
I chatted a while back with you about my 58 top not retracting. We did what you asked and the front unscrews from the windshield and the back unscrews but acts like it keeps unscrewing. which switch to I check to make sure it knows when it is unscrewed all the way so the next step can take place.

I did email to your email address you gave me, but I have not gotten a response. So I figured I would try this angle again.

Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Ronda...

I got your e-mail but it said you'd get back to me with progress comments, so I didn't think it needed a reply.  You said:

"Hi Dave,
Just thought I would let you know that I will get my buddies together on the 4th. I will let you know what happens.

Thank you for all of your help

Ronda"

I thought we were past the roof unlatching issues and had moved on to the roof retracting into the trunk problem.  My last response to you, before your holiday gathering, was:

"Answer: Followup 7-1, a minute later this afternoon.

Now that you know the roof is fully releasing we may have to apologize
to your wrench friend...a teeny bit.  But first:

There is nothing that should prevent the roof from continuing backwards
toward the trunk.  Either the roof motor is tired, or the roof's
folding part won't fold.

First, test the roof motor if you can by having those two pals help you
again.  The idea is to have them stand on either side of the roof as
you retract it...just before or as the clunk noise begins the helpers
should gently but firmly push on the roof as if helping the motor overcome
a tough spot.  The motor will only move the roof at its own pace, so
don't overpush...but if the motor gets help at this juncture if often can
finish the job.

Let me know.

Use this e-mail if you'd like...since you will now be limited to the
number of questions.

Re: today's question about checking a switch, it's inside the interior panels of the roof's c-pillar; but, I don't think you'll need to do that yet.  It's normal for the screws to keep unscrewing while the roof is near the body.

I was anxiously waiting to hear if the roof got back into the trunk?

Isn't that where we are?

And sure, please feel free to use the e-mail above...it works.
