Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1969 camaro ammeter, 69 camaro, altanator

Question
i used a Painless wiring kit to completly rewire a 69 camaro.i need to know how to wire the original ammeter. i have been told this is not a true ammeter and needs special wiring .

 HI- the ammeter shows the direction of the current to and from the battery.You want the ammeter to go from the battery to the gauge than to the altanator. so the ammeter
should be in the center of the two . ok
