Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1976 vette battery problem, battery problem, volt meter

i have a 76 vette and the battery wont stay charged .i just had the allternater and the battery replaced for that reason and it still has the same problem. i did let it sit for a week and a half without running it but it shouldnt have drained it that much. can you give me some advise on what the problem might be?

  HI ; i would get a volt meter and see what the alt. is putting out and also the battery-this way you will know if it is charging right and if yes than you must have a dead short or something grounding out, that is killing the battery. so I would check that first and look for anything shorting out. ok
