Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1967 camaro, 1967 camaro rs, mixture adjustments

Question
My 1967 camaro rs v8 327 automatic, dies whenever i come to a stop. it a new carb (holley )I tryed adjusting it but only fixes it for a short period of time. Could the vacuum advance be the cause?

thanks

Answer
No, the vacuum advance is not active when the engine is idling - it only comes into operation when the throttle is partly opened during acceleration.

If your carburetor is truly new, not rebuilt, most likely an error was made in installing it or setting up the mixture adjustments.

If your carburetor is rebuilt, then it it most likely a carburetor problem.  My experience with rebuilt carburetors has been that they are a waste of money, at least 75% of the time.

If you start guessing at what is wrong, you will spend a lot of money that you don't need to spend.  The right way to straighten out this situation is to take the car to a tune-up shop that is equipped with an engine analyzer.  They will hook up your engine and find the problem quickly.

I'm sorry, there is no easy answer!
