Classic/Antique Car Repair: Auto body, ppg paints, acrylic enamel

Question
I'm trying to find the paint mixtures/conversion to todays paint for 1955 Cadillac Eldordo blue. I want it for acrylic enamel. Please tell me where to go.

Answer
Cadillac used at least 5 different blues in 1955. They are called Azure blue, Cobalt blue poly, Ruskin blue, Dresden blue poly and Bahama blue poly.  The "poly" means a metallic paint (tiny sparkles in the paint).

I find no special paints listed for Eldorados - are you sure it was not a standard color as used on all models?

Do you know which of these blues you want?  If you are trying to match the original paint on the car, look at the paint code on the body plate (AKA patent plate) under the hood -

The codes for the above numbers are 22,26,20,24 and 94 in that order.

If you find that code, you can go to your paint distributor and have them look up the modern formula to match that paint.  Since you didn't specify a paint brand, I can't take it any further than that without further information.

If you want to do your own research, all the paint manufacturers will help you find the formula, but they will need this information.   For an example, for PPG paints, go to:

I hope this points you in the right direction.
