Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1975 BOBCAT Brake System, lug bolts, brake hoses

Question
They pulled to the right. The right passenger side roter was badly grooved and the shoes on both sides were wore out, metal to metal. So far I have replaced one roter, both calipers, both shoes, and both brake lines. I noticed tonight that it is not pulling as it did but now there is a vibration when I brake. I have not looked at the back drums yet. That is my next project this weekend. I appreciate the info.

Answer
OK, Thanks for the info.  So your brake hoses were definitly causing the pulling - not really a surprise, I've seen that many times.

As for the vibration, that sounds like a bad rotor - the back brakes are not likely to cause a vibration unless there is something really wrong with a drum, like a crack or a missing piece!  But a front rotor will cause a vibration if there is any defect at all in the surface.

If they are thick enough to turn again, I'd have a brake shop check them for hard spots or warping.  If anyone has over torqued the lug bolts, this will cause a warped rotor in a heartbeat!  If this has happened to your car, you are going to have to either live with it, or find better rotors.  At least the car will stop this way!
