Answer
I'm sorry, Ray, but as I say in my introduction on this site, I know nothing about modifying cars - I've never done it and in fact I'm in the hobby to preserve them the way they were originally built.  I feel the engineers who designed the cars in the first place knew more about the right things to put in the car than someone who doesn't have the background or experience with the design, so I don't advise it!  Of course, it's your car so you can do what you wish with it, and since it is such a common car you are not ruining a priceless artifact, but you'll have to find someone with experience in these modifications to advise you.  I don't know if there is anyone on this service that can help, but if you do a Google Search on "66 Mustang 5 speed" I'm sure you'll turn up some folks who have done it or at least tried to do it.  Generally, when you make a major change like this, you wind up changeing a whole lot of stuff that you never expected, in cluding the driveline, the linkage, the clutch and bell housing etc.

You are aware, I'm sure, that there was a very good 4 speed available from the factory for these cars -why not find one of those cars and just swap parts?

Good luck, whatever you do.

Dick
