Classic/Antique Car Repair: Retract Quarter Window, wiggle room, quarter window

Question
Dave:

I am installing a new quarter window beltstrip(
or anti-rattle)piece on my 59 retract.  On the
outside piece, what is the easiest way to get the
strip clipped into the body?

I am having trouble getting the strip between the
the window & fender.  Don't really want to take the window out.  Ideas please.

Tks

Answer
Hi Ralph,

I assume you're talking about the "fuzzy strip".  The way to do this is to "almost" take the window out.

1.  Rmove the back seat and retract the roof.
2.  Remove the interior panel to get access to the innards.
3.  Mark the screws*

The idea is to loosen the "guide assembly", meaning the track the window rides in.  If you loosen it enough you will eventually be able to move the window away from that outer fender and slip in the fuzzy strip.  *Before you loosen anything mark the screws (bolts) that secure the track.  If they look like the track can be adjusted under them you'll want to mark they're original position so the track can be returned to that exact position and the screws re-tightened.

And there you have it.  Easy as pie.

P.S.  If the window is stubborn don't be afraid to loosen (but not remove) another screw or two, let's say on the window regulator to give youerself a bit more wiggle room.
