Classic/Antique Car Repair: TR 6 Brakes, british car club, wheel cylinders

Question
The master cylinder on my TR 6 leaks fluid between the MC and Servo.  I took it apart and found very dirty between push rods on both.  The rubber on the servo side seems good.  I put it back together and filled the reservor.  All fuild leaks out same place over several days even while not being used.  Is it best to replace the entire Master Cylinder assembly?
or ......    Thanks Rick

Answer
Hi Rick,
If you have not rebuilt a master cylinder before you should seek out the local British car club for someone familure with the TR-6 MCs. Not all MCs are rebuildable. Lately I have found about 50% are pitted so badly they can not just have a kit put in. There are companies who will bore your old cylinder and resleeve it with brass or stainless steel so it won't happen again. Some cylinders are getting hard to find and that is an only option. If you don't have any luck locally, e-mail me and I will look up some suppliers for you. If you have been using DOT 3 fluid you may soon need to rebuild the wheel cylinders and calipers too. Plus the clutch hydrolics. Dont't forget to check the booster for some of the missing fluid too. My e-mail is longez8@bellsouth.net and website is www.mg-tri-jag.net
