Classic/Antique Car Repair: 30s Packard to buy, beverly rae kimes, classic car club

Question
This question is in regards to desirability of 30s Packards. I want to buy a 30S Packard, preferable 1932-34. I have located a 32 Deluxe Eight 903 Coupe Roadster and a 34 Dual Cowl Standard 8 Phaeton. I like the colors much better on the 34 better, but I am leary of the collectability of the standard 8. All others things being equal, what would you recomend. They both are aboutthe same price.

Answer
Both cars are full Classics, as specifed by the Classic Car Club of America.  The standard 8 is a fine car, and a Dual Cowl Convertible sedan is the most desirable of body styles.   I recommend you find a copy of one of the many Packard books which describe the features of the various models.  Bob Turnquist wrote the first of these books, and it has some errors, but it is still well worth reading.  Then there is the Beverly Rae Kimes book - expensive, but worth it.

Either car is a fine automobile -the choice has to be made on your own feelings about them.  Don't make the mistake of thinking the Standard Eight is a cheap or plain car - far from it.  It is a luxury car and highly respected.  No matter which you chose, you'll be proud of the car and enjoy it for a long time!
