Classic/Antique Car Repair: transmission, ford falcon, fly wheel

Question
I currently own an Australian 1971 Ford Falcon, and am currently
having problems with its c4 automatic transmission. Not too sure if
you know this kind of area, but i removed it to fix some leaks,
transmission seems fine, but once i put it back in the flywheel/
drive plate seems to wobble around and rub against the base plate
making a horrible noise. All the bolts and that are holding in the fly
wheel but not sure why it is isnt spinning properly.
Thanx

Answer
The only way to sort this out is to get under the car, remove the cover over the flexplate (the proper name for the "flywheel") and loosen all the bolts that fasten it to the back of the crankshaft and the torque convertor.

I hope you marked all these parts before you took it apart, because they should always be put back in the same position.

Assuming you did not do this, you'll just have to try various positions for the two sets of bolts until you find the one where everything tracks correctly.

If you can't figure it out that way, you'll have to remove the transmission again and see what went wrong.

You did have the convertor all the way seated in the transmission before you lifted it into position, didn't you?

Good Luck,

Dick
