Classic/Antique Car Repair: 81 camaro, clutch fan, aftermarket distributor

Question
Yes, timing is an issue with this car. the distributor is straight out of an old caprice police car and is in fact missing a tooth per the guy who installed it. A small turn of the dist, and the car started like it is new. my next question is :could you recommend an aftermarket distributor, I do not know much about electronic ignition or if I should even use it for just a saturday driver. Is an oem distributor just as good as some of the systems out there for that purpose?
Also, the car has run hot in the past. Just a clutch fan. The radiator is the v6, pumping for a 350. I did get ahold of a rad out of an 80 firebird(turbo pace car) which is larger, but doesnt clear small frame rails in the front. Any advice on that?
Also, the dash lights. Obviously they are lit up. I have a separate oil pressure and temp gauge, so i'll pull the dash bulbs for those, however is there a way to shut down ALL the red lights?some dont even have words on them, just red light..(brake lite not on)

Answer
I would go with a MALLORY ,and a H.D.coil too. but any brand name should be good , as long as it is not made in japan,etc..
and as far as that missing tooth you are looking for trouble with it in there..
I think that the rad. is not big enough for it, remove the thermastadt and see what that does...
The dash lights , did you look and see if any fuse will take the lights out if you remove it ..or like you said remove it.
