Classic/Antique Car Repair: 6v to 8v radio safety, lincoln capri, volt generator

Question
I am switching my 55 lincoln capri from a 6 volt to 8 volt battery (still doesn't turn over fast enough to start nicely even after rebuild and heavy gauge ground wire).  From everything I have read, this should be fine for window/blower motors and lights, but I cannot find info on how this will effect the radio.  Should I reduce voltage to the radio or is it ok?

Answer
David,
Appling 8 volts to a 6 volt radio shouldn't make difference. In most cases a 6 volt generator will put out 8 to volts on the average. What you may want to do is to jump start the vehicle and after the motor is running simply take the car for a long ride. Stopping at traffic lights and taking off again should brake in the rebuilt motor in no time.
