Classic/Antique Car Repair: Chevy Repair/Restoration, double pumper, 69 chevy

Question
Hi, Roger.  My question is a bit unusual considering that I myself am not actually repairing or restoring a car.   However, I am in the process of writing a screenplay, of all things, and it features a character who IS restoring/repairing a classic car (through my previous research I decided on a '70 Chevelle but that could change).  Anyway, what I was hoping you could tell me is just some simple details/facts involved in the repair/restoration process on that type of car or actually any car would work!   The kind of details a guy who is restoring or repairing his car would tell a friend if asked "So how's the car coming along?"   I apologize for the lengthy question - and my lack of auto knowledge - and thank you for taking the time to read it.
