Classic/Antique Car Repair: 78 351 ford modified, timing gears, 351 ford

can this engine be woken up by using a cleveland set of timing gears for the cam? i was told the engine was either advanced or retarted by the factory for polution purposes and by changing over to the cleveland set up you can improve performance and get the overheating problem which is inherant to the designe to improve.The engine has all new cooling parts and will still run a little above were it should be when ambient temps are in the 80s or above

as far as the timeing gears just the gears alone should really do nothing that you can do with the gears that you have as all you would be doing is advance or retard the timing more or less and i would not even do just that as I do not think it would make any difference and it would be a lot of time spent for no real change in the motor.
