Classic/Antique Car Repair: street rod, stock chevy, mustang ii

Question
I am building a 1937 Chev Coupe Street Rod, and have installed a Mustang II front end and a 8 inch rear end.  I have access to a Chev 305 High Output Engine (carburated) but I know very little of these engines.  Are they reliable and moderately strong engines ?  What can be done to increase horsepower ?

Thanks

Answer
HI CRAIG,
A 305 cu.in  oh yea there is a lot to be done and that engine will pull 7,000 rpm revs, it is a good strong motor. but be shure that you do not get a lemon, how many miles on it ? what type of a cam is in it, is it all stock chevy parts, you can go with a asst of alum. intake manifolds, also carbaration , and headers you must have headers, that is a good engine as if i'am not mistaken it is a bored out 283 motor. yes it has balls and if  it is in good shape it will do that coupe real good like the wheel might come up off the ground in 1st and second gear good for you
let me know more ok, i will be only glad to help you
