Classic/Antique Car Repair: Nova SS, chevy ii nova, ss cars

Question
Howdy, just wondering if you can answer me this.
Looking for to buy a 66 Nova SS for my gal. The advertisement says it originally had a 6 cylinder in it. Now it has a 327.
Did SS cars ever come with a 6 cylinder?
Thanks for your reply.
Phil

Answer
Yes, there were a couple of different 6s.  The standard engine for the model 11737 was the 6.   The 8 would be model 11837.

The SS was really just a trim option that year in the Chevy II Nova 2 dR ht.

There may have been a suspension difference including wheel and brake drum, spring and even control arm differences because of the weight and performance potential of the V8s, so I'd advise having a frame shop check the car out to see if it is safe after the conversion.  Some cars are definitely not safe after a conversion like this, but I don't know for sure with this model.
