Classic/Antique Car Repair: lugnuts, chrysler corporation, lug nuts

Question
I cant remove the lugnuts from my 1968 dodge charger, are they reverse threaded?

Answer
Yes, all Chrysler corporation cars used left handed threads on the left side of the car in those years.   However, you need to look carefully at all the lug nuts, because it is common for people to get the drums mixed up from side to side on these cars.  So look at the end of the studs to see which way the threads are slanted - with a good light you can tell if they are still left handed thread.   Usually, there will be some sort of mark on the lug stud or nut to warn you about this.  Look for an "L" on the end of the lug stud, or on the nut.

When you have the car serviced, be sure to warn the mechanic about this - many of these cars are damaged by mechanics who weren't yet born when these cars were made!

Putting an impact wrench on the lug nut set for the wrong direction will ruin the brake drum in short order!
