Answer
Tom,
The seat belt circuit requires a complete circuit with a ground from the seat belt clip when you connect them together. The basic circuit is an easy to follow circuit that uses a relay under the hood. When you turn on the key the light will come on due to the relay being turned off. a set of contacts will be closed sending 12 volts to the light and to the buzzer. On some vehicles the buzzer is shared by several functions, door ajar, key in ignition etc. You may also find some type of delay circuit that slowly turns off the buzzer. The basic circuit is completed by switches under the seats that close when that seat is occuppied. To turn off the seat belt lamp, the ground circuit is completed to activate the relay and open the contact that supplies 12 volts to the lamp and buzzer circuit. If you don't already have a repair book for this vehicle you can purchase one at any good car parts outlets.
