Classic/Antique Car Repair: steering wheel 1965 Barracuda, 1965 plymouth barracuda, housewares department

Question
The plate on the back of the steering wheel horn cap on my 1965 Plymouth Barracuda has come unfastened.  I have tried soldering it, and it hasn't worked.  I have tried using a soldering weld and it hasn't worked.  One of the three connection points is intact.  But the other two are totally loose.  I am trying to not melt the plastic logo ring much more.  The outside of the plastic inner ring has started to melt because of the heat.  Do you have any suggestions?  I am trying to keep the car as original as possible.  Thanks

Answer
Hi, I'm back on line again.  Probably I'm too late for your problem, but I did want to say that it sounds like a job for "Superglue".  I've fixed quite a few trim items and plastic parts with this stuff.  It's dangerous to use - be sure not to get it on your skin, but if the parts are clean and fit well, it is sure good glue, and it won't distort or heat anything.   Any hardware or housewares department will have it - in a tiny tube.

Be careful!

Dick.
