Classic/Antique Car Repair: Radio removal and dash bulbs., pontiac grand prix, wd 40

Question
Tom:

Thank you for your rapid response. An additional question, if I may.

The instruments are not in one cluster. They are contained in round circles. Does each circle pop out into the car or do they have to be unbolted from the rear of the dash?

Also, what manual would you recommend as being most complete and detailed and where might we obtain it?

Thank you again.

Question -
I have a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix. I left the car with a shop to R&R the radio. He removed the dash to get to the radio and then said he couldn't repair the radio. I asked him to change out all dash light bulbs before he replaced the dash. He used the wrong bulbs and the dash can hardly be seen at night. Also the temperature control slide is jammed.

Q #1 Can the radio be removed without removing the complete dash?

Q #2 Can the dash bulbs be reached without removing the dash?

Q #3 Can the temp cable be replaced without removing the dash.

My son and I plan to fix the above ourselves. If you have any tips please let me know.

Thank you in advance,

Hello Olins,
1-You should be able to remove the radio without taking the whole dash apart. 2- To gain access to all the lamps in the cluster for this car, you will need to remove the cluster/instrument panel. 3-If the temp control cable is frozen, don't force it! simply spray the cable with WD 40 or CRC oil and let it sit for a few days. This usally works or most control cables even if they are 50 years old and not to rusted up.
Back to number one, If you have a repair book for this car it will give you the procedure for removing the radio and for replacing the lamps.

Answer
Olins,
I'm not totally sure how to remove these instruments. If you stop by any large auto parts store they will advise you to what service book you should have for your car. This book will give you complete removal instructions for the gauges.
