Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1961 Mercury Comet., tail light lenses, mercury comets

Question
I just saw a '61 mercury for sale.  Besides needing to be completely redone, its going to be needing trim pieces like the tail light lenses.  If I buy this as a project car, do you have any idea of where I can concentrate on finding my car parts?

I have a '68 Plymouth and I got most of my parts from Wildcat Classic Mopars in Oregon.  Is there something like this for Mercury comets?

Answer
Wildcat is the place to go for  Mopar stuff, as you've found.   I'd try Desert Southwest auto parts in Phoenix for your Comet.  There are other yards in Phoenix or the area that have a lot of stuff for these also.   They all advertise in Hemmings and other magazines also.

Another thing to do is to join your local club that specializes in these cars - they will always know where to find parts.  eBay is also a good source for things like trim parts - but you have to watch for weeks before something turns up that you need. I just set the "favorite searches" thing up on eBay, and I get an e-mail when ever someone lists a part I need for one of my cars - works great and doesn't cost anything (my favorite price!).

Good luck on your project!

Dick.
