Classic/Antique Car Repair: wax and UV protection, paint dealer, cure for sunburn

Question
Dick,

What is the best wax, and UV protection for a car with clear coat? 84 Cad.

Answer
Best in what respect?  Longest lasting wax I have found is Zymol - sold at Costco, and probably AutoZone, although I haven't looked.   Best for gloss is any of the Meguire's products, sold everywhere, but they don't seem to last as long. Nu-Finish is also very good in both respects.  If the finish needs to be buffed, go to an automotive paint dealer, and get some "clear coat safe" buffing compound made by 3M.   Anything else is risky, and even with this stuff, you have to take it really easy with the  buffer - do all the edges by hand, and tape off any stripes etc.

As for UV protection, you've got me.  I would keep any clear coated car out of the sun as much as you can - I don't know any other sure cure for sunburn - especially in the early clear coat cars - they were terrible for durability.

Dick.
