Dodge Repair: no spark: 76 360

Question
QUESTION: 76 dodge 360 after sitting long time replace batteries, plugs, wires,
cap and rotor. cranks strong, almost fires but won't. had mobile mechanic come out, he checked coil said it was ok but no spark from
coil to distributor. carb is getting gas. changed ignition resistor because it created this problem in the past but that did not do the trick.
stuck. any ideas?

ANSWER: Hi Morris,
I would start by removing the wire that goes from the coil tower to the distributor cap, by pulling it out at the cap end. Then hold it so the tip of that wire is 1/4" from the cylinder head and have a helper crank over the starter while you observe whether you see a spark jump from the tip of the wire to the cylinder head or not. You say it "almost fires" then it sounds to me like you do have spark and because you replaced the cap and rotor that observed spark should also be going to the spark plugs. Let me know whether or not you do get that spark to jump across the gap. If it does, then we should focus on the spark timing and the gas mixture as the issues, rather than the spark. Did you also replace that wire that goes from the coil tower to the distributor cap when you were changing the spark plug wires?

already checked that. i am going to replace the ignition control module which
is probably as old as the van by the looks of it.
already checked ignition resistor and that was ok.

Hi Morris,
By 'already checked that' I assume you verified there was no spark coming from the coil. So focus on the primary of the spark system which is the ignition control module. I have an '83 manual but I suspect the ignition system in your 360 is different than that for the '83 318 V-8,
