Dodge Repair: Passenger side mirror assembly: 08 minivan

QUESTION: I bought a replacement passenger side mirror (wife cracked the original) for my 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I know how to get to the bolt to get the old one off, but how to I disconnect the wire wrapped around the old mirror?  I was able to flip off the little circular cap underneath it and could see the wire going in, but I couldn't see a plug or anything, I was in a rush and I just put the old broken mirror back on in the meantime.  I also didn't want to mess up the wire, so I thought I would ask.  Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
The '09 Mitchell manual shows that the mirror wire connects to the "door module" inside the passenger door. So there does appear to be a plug or possibly 2 plugs for that harness connector inside the mirror itself. No info is offered about how to get inside the mirror to disconnect the plug for replacement onto the new mirror.

QUESTION: Thanks.  I took care of the "Thank/Rate the Expert" tab.  So is there any other way to find out?  I had the mirror off, but it was still attached to this wire.  The wire definitely appears to go straight down the inside of the passenger door.  It comes up and wraps around the outside of the metal part that connects the mirror body to the van (with part of it connected to a little plastic tab on the side that is pushed into a hole and doesn't seem like it will come out without breaking).  It then hugs that metal part all the way around and connects through the bottom of the mirror.  I pulled on the wire a little, once I popped off the circular plastic cover on the bottom of the mirror body, but there seemed to be some slack in the wire and I didn't want to mess it up.  I'm guessing there has to be a plug in there, but it's deep enough to where you can't see it.  The new part does not have any wires.  Does that mean I have the wrong part?  I can take it to my mechanic, but I'm in it now!  Before writing you, I found a few youtube videos and message board descriptions, but they all only went up to 2007 models.  It seems to be different for the 2008 and I can't find the answer anywhere.

Hi Mike,
Because the mirror is damaged beyond repair I would try to get inside of it. If you are certain that you have the correct replacement mirror then the same approach aught to work with it. I find no details about what the internal connections are. But try hard not to damage the wire or the plug as you will be reusing it on the new mirror.
If you find that you can't remove the old wire from the mirror, then the mirror you bought is not the replacement mirror and you would want to check out that possibility.
