Dodge Repair: 1993 dodge ram 250

Question
QUESTION: i have a 93 dodge van 5.2 .it will run if you pour gas in the intake .it is fuel injected i replaced fuel pump and relays . i havent re installed the tank yet .i however hooked power back up to it and it doess not work.is there a fuse or something else preventing it from working .

ANSWER: Hi Edward,
When you say "it does not work" do you mean the fuel pump will not activate when you turn the key to the run position, not even for just about for 1 second? And when you are cranking it over does the fuel pump run for as long as you are cranking it over? That is what it should do. Let me know if you can't get the pump to run at all, and listen/feel the fuel pump relay to see if it is showing any signs of "life".
In the '95 model year, the power to operate the relay (make it click) comes from fuse 9 (10 amp, labeled "engine" in the fuse box in the cabin)in a light green/black wire.
I only have the manual for the '95 model but in that year the power to operate the fuel pump which was controlled by the fuel pump relay was provided by fuse 8 (30 amp, labeled 'engine' in the power box in the engine compartment) on a red/white wire. It may be that '93 is the same as the '95.
Which relays did you already replace?
You might try a fault code readout using the ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The watch the check engine light, which remains "on", to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process  to se sure of an accurate set o flash counts. Tell me the counts in order of appearance.

QUESTION: well the van now will start .i actually drove it down the road a mile or so today .after that i pulled it into the driveway and just let it idle for a bit .it was running smooth .well i put it in gear and it cut off .tried restarting it and it wouldnt .well tried to start it later and it started but again when i put it in gear it died .it has been siting for several years .so maybe i have a puzzle here to figure out .help .and again thank you .

Answer
Did you try the fault code readout?
The other thing to look at is the exhaust gas recirculation valve (egr). It may be gummed up and not closing tightly which then leans out the mixture which prevents starting. Look for it in the narrow exhaust pipe that branches off the exhaust manifold (usually on the right side of the engine) and goes toward the throttle body. It has a round top with a vacuum hose attached to it. Between the top and the body of the valve there is stem hidden behind a flange. The valve stem has a slot into which the tip of a screwdriver to move the stem pack and forth. Spray some WD-40 or other solvent on the stem where it enters the valve body and then move the stem back and forth to loosen the "action". An internal spring tries to close the valve to a dead stop. That may improve the function of the engine.
Thank you for the rating and nomination.
