Dodge Repair: dodge 1500 transmission codes, dodge ram 1500, headlamp assembly

Question
I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7l that has engine codes p0841 p0700 p1776. The tranny will not down shift after you get going unless you do it manualy. Is this the solenoid in the trans and is this hard to replace. thanks for any advice.

Answer
Hi Harry,
Both the 841 and 1776 refer to the low-reverse solenoid being stuck in the closed position and that the pressure switch is saying it is in wrong position. Generally this would most likely mean that you would need to go under the vehicle, drain the trans fluid, drop the pan and then remove the filter, and the valve body and finally remove and replace the solenoid/pressure switch assembly. The shop manual shows how this is done for the 42 and the 45 and 48 transmissions so it would be helpful to know which transmission you have. I can copy the pages from a CD and attach them to an email I would send to you directly. You can then judge whether you want to do this yourself. Typically the entire assembly is replaced rather than to take it apart to replace the L-R or any of the other solenoids, so you could check out the price of that assembly. It is possible that there is only an electrical issue and I can also copy the pages about the 0841 code so you could check that possibility out.
The body code plate behind the right headlamp assembly shows which transmission you have on the 4th line of seven lines (the middle line counting from the top or the bottom). The letters at position 13-15 will either be DG4, DG8, or DGQ so look for that and let me know so I would know which pages from the manual apply to your truck.
Please read the PS below.
Thanks,

Roland
