Dodge Repair: Dakota lights, high beams, truck manuals

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Dakota and the front headlight module has went and i need to replace is, i had it un hooked so i have to use the headlights Manuely because it cased the high beams to stay on and the tail lights stopped working, i looked on the truck and it is tucked behind the battery hard place to reach how do i remove it so i can put in a new one, and am i removing the right thing ?  if i could i would post a picture of what i am trying to fix but i don't c a way to on here

ANSWER: Hi Francine,
I have to say that I don't have truck manuals that go that far back, the oldest I have is for '04. I can copy a page from that later manual that shows how to remove the headlamp module, and attach it to an email I would send to you directly. To do that I need to know your email address so in a follow-up tell me that but don't us the @ sign, instead use "at", otherwise the program automatically erases the address.
As to what you propose to remove/do, I don't understand  what the original behavior was that caused you to unhook it (and what did you unhook, and how do you manually use the headlamps)?_When did the tail lights stop working in relation to the time when the high beams stayed on? Is it the same on the right side headlamp module?
Thanks,
Roland

QUESTION: mu e-mail is fransmith404atymail.com
the reason i had to unhook it is because i went out side one day and i noticed the the truck high beam was on , i started the truck shit it off waited and it stayed on, i flicked the high beam off and on pulled the head light switch off and on it would shut off, i disconnected the battery and left the truck ever since this happened in may so mu husband traced the head light wiring found the little black box and unplugged it i was able to connect the truck battery again but i still have no tail lights , blinkers or break lights , ans if i plug in the wire to the black box again it turns on my high beams again ans stays on, i removed the small bolt holding in the box but the box is tucked in pretty good tot eh fender itself, do i have to remove the battery before i can pull it out ?

Answer
I'm getting a better understanding. If the box that turns off the headlamps in under the dash on the left side in the corner, then that is the 'central timer module'. I don't believe the headlamp module is your problem. But then I am working from the '04 manual so tell me whether the black box is where I described or is it in the engine compartment?
On the rear lights, I don't think those have anything to do with the headlamp issue which are separate circuits. According the '04 manual the brake/tail/turn light do share the need to have functional fuses # 4 and #5 so check to see if either of those are blown.
I will wait to hear from you before sending anything by email.
