Dodge Repair: Chrysler Neon stalling after 5km, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
My 2001 Chrysler (Dodge) Neon 2L  LE sohc starts and runs as it should until I have travelled about 5 km then it starts to misfire and tacho spasmodically bounces 1000 rpm higher. When stopped it will stall but can be restarted but continues to occasionally misfire. Once I have travelled about 8 km it runs fine again and continues to do so until allowed to cool down then one goes through the same cycle again.  Check engine light is not on and no fault codes.

Answer
Hi David,
I just found your question in the 'pool' to which Kevin had referred it. From what you describe it sounds to me like one of the two engine rotational sensors is beginning to fail as it warms up to full temperature, so I would keep checking for fault codes to determing which one it is. If that is the case it will reach the point where it does set a code. The other sort of part that can get fault but not set a code is the exhaust gas recirculation valve but accoring to my '01 Neon manual there is no egr valve on the 2L engine.
Please 'rate' my answer (see below).
Thanks,
Roland
