Dodge Repair: 1993 dodge dakota truck will not start, fuel pump relay, electronic ignition system

Question
Truck quit while driving.  Listen to fuel pump and did not hear. Replaced fuel pump and still will not start.  Engine turns over.  Checked for fuel pump fuse and did not find.  Hot wired fuel pump and pump gas up to carburetor. Still did not start.  There is no fire going to fuel pump.  Is there a fuel pump fuse?  I need help.

Answer
Hi Mack,
Unfortunately as explained in my 'profile', I don't have the wiring diagrams for the '93 truck. But if you examine the fuses in the engine compartment and under the dash you might find one for the fuel pump that is blown.
The engine has a carburetor? That is a bit surprising to me as most all the cars in the fleet by '93 had fuel injection. In any case, if there is an electrical fuel pump then the there is likely for fire safety purposes a fuel pump relay and that may not be being activated by the engine control module rather than a fuse being blown.
There is likely some sort of electronic ignition system, if you have a distributor with a sensor inside of it or a sensor that detects the rotational position of the crankshaft and or camshaft. If one of those sensors has failed, then the engine control module will for safety purposes shut off the fuel pump relay and also the power to the spark coil so as to prevent a fire in the event that the engine stopped running as the result of an accident. There might then be an 'automatic shutdown relay' rather than a fuel pump relay involved.
If you have a 'check engine' light try this: turn the igniton switch: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the light, which remains 'on', to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then let me know the counts in order of appearance.
Als check for spark, and if you don't have that either, then I would suspect that the engine rotational sensor (in the distributor if you have one, or elsewhere on the engine) has failed and so I would replace that to see if that restores things.
Please 'rate' may answer (see below),
Thanks,
