Dodge Repair: High beams wont turn off: 97 Dakota, high beams, fuse box

Question
i have a 97 Dakota and the high beams wont shut off also causing my tail lights and break lights not to work ,  i was told it was a head light Modual  ?  but i dont know where this is located in the truck  ?  and if it will be hard or easy to replace

Answer
Hi Francine,
I don't have a truck manual so old as a '97. I doubt however that the head lamp high beams staying on has anything to do with the brake lights or the tail lights. I would check the fuse for the parking lights (tail lights also are part of that), and the fuse for the brake lights. Tell me whether the front fuse box has about 35 fuses in it, and also does the cabin fuse box have a similarly large number of fuses (30)? If so, then my '04 manual may show the identical circuit as in your '97. Otherwise I don't have any wiring diagrams to study about your vehicle.
The brights staying on may be an issue related to the multifunction switch that also you to momentarily flash your high beams, but the switch is not cancelling, or it could be the high beams are turned on by a relay which is stuck in the 'on' position. So look to see in the engine compartment box whether there is a relay labelled 'high beam' and remove it to shut those off.
