Dodge Repair: Rear Isolation Solenoid Valve/tail light burnout?, dodge ram 1500, solenoid valve

Question
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and the tail light keeps burning out , Ive had to replace it about 4 times .The mechanic told me it could be the Rear Isolation Solenoid Valve ....Never heard of that before i think he is pulling my leg . what could it be .?

Answer
Hi Nicholas,
I have not heard of the such a valve. I checked the rear wiring for the Ram in my '04 manual and find nothing unusual in the wiring diagram. The rear lighting system is powered by fuse 50 (15 amp) which powers the parking lamp relay. I can't think of any way that a voltage higher than what the battery/alternator puts out that could blow the tail light. Perhaps there is some mechanical insult that is happening to the bulb while it is illuminated which causing the filament to break, such as vibration. That is my only idea of why this is happening.

Thanks,
