Dodge Repair: Clogged a/c draing (drain?) replacement., 2004 dodge stratus, drain replacement

Question
I have taken my 2004 dodge stratus to a shop to have the clogged ac daring replaced and they want to charge 200 for the replacement. is that a fair price?

Answer
Hi Kelly,
I am unclear what you mean by a "draing" or 'daring'. But if it involves the refrieration system then I suspect that it is not unfair if it includes collecting the refrigerant and putting it back in.
But if you are talking about the condensate water drain (which when clogged makes the carpets wet) then that is a very unfair price. All you have to do is find the drain hole (located directly under the HVAC cabinet under the dash) at the midline of the underside of the body at the lower edge of the panel that separates the engine from the cabin (called the 'firewall') and  simply insert a stiff wire into the lumen of the drain tube. It takes about 5-10 minutes to do that 'job' so charging $200 is a ripoff!
If they simply did that then offer them 50 dollars for the job and if they don't agree ask them to show you what they had to do, who did the work, why it took so long, etc. If they won't cut the charge accordingly, then tell them you are going to small claims court.
So let me know exactly what it is that is clogged and being 'replaced'. If it is the condensate water pan drain then nothing has to be replaced, just poked with a wire! I would cancel that service and look for someother handyperson/shop to do what I described.
Please 'rate' my answer (see below).
Thanks,
Roland
