Dodge Repair: 2002 dodge stratus, rough dirt road, rapid acceleration

Question
Hi Russel, After a couple of rough turns and rapid acceleration on a rough dirt road my girlfriend's car will run smoothly but fails to idle correctly when stopped (i.e. it wants to cut off, no overrev). I thought it might be that she had stirred up the gunk in the fuel tank and it was affecting the fuel filter or the fuel injection. Her check engine light came on after it happened. I got to drive the vehicle last night and acceleration is smooth, just won't keep a strong idle(pretty much eliminates my theory). I'm not sure the size of the engine but any advice as to where to start troubleshooting is greatly appreciated!

Answer
You will need to get the codes read that are turning on the "CHECK ENGINE" light. You can do this yourself by cycling the key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON and leave on, look where the mileage is displayed and you should see a code show up there. The format will be a P followed by four numbers, like P1234. Write down the codes and do the key thing one more time to double check the first results. Repost your question once you have the codes and I'll try to help you out more.
