Dodge Repair: Not Starting, fuse box, dodge dakota

Question
I have a 94 Dodge Dakota 3.9 Vehicle started fine drove to store came out would not start. Vehicle turns over but no spark,no fuel.
Had a friend come and look at it, thought it was the coil and replaced that did not work.Read on the Internet about the red/white stripe wire under the main fuse box, that was ok.He tooked the harness off of the computer and put it back on.He then was messing around with the steering column and all of a sudden the relays started clicking. Was able to start and drive home. Next day started fine, but the following day same issue. I did notice that the engine light does not come on when cranking it over.I have had problems in the past starting the truck when its in park,so then I put it into neutral and it starts. Can you give me some clue to what to check or replace.By the way when the relays activated,we don't know if that was by chance or from messing around with the steering column.

Answer
The Red/White wire gets its power from the ingition switch. There have been cases where the ignition switch will fail and not send power out to the engine controller as well as all the relays which need power. Now with that said it is possible that the switch has failed but you should check the wiring at the bulkhead connector too. The connector is located next to the parking brake and is held together by a bokt in the center of the connector. Seperate the connector and check for overheating or loose wires. I would also recheck the wire near the fuse box. The point at where the wire breaks is at the splice where it branches off to supply power to all the other circuits. You won't be able to see the break until you remove the splice covering.
