Dodge Repair: dodge shifting up and down gears, diesel 4x4, dodge diesel

Question
My dodge diesel 4x4 has recently started shifting up and down (it's an automatic) I'm not sure what's going on should I take it to a shop? It's a 2001 turbo cummins 5.9. Had the transmission filter changed and fliud flushed 2 and a half years ago.

Answer
The condition you described is what we call hunting. This usually happens at cruise speed or light acceleration once the transmission has shifted into OD. It's usually caused by one of two things. The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor is out of calibration or the Governor Pressure Transducer is sending corrupt data to the PCM. In either case you should take it to a reputable repair facility for a more accurate diagnosis.
