Dodge Repair: 1988 dodge d100, 5.2L TBI, 4x2, dodge d100, little smokey

Question
Hi Russell,
the truck sat from 2005-2011 about 1 mile from the pacific ocean at a deserted lot.  the truck was owned by a friend of mine who used to drive it regularly until 2005.  I went to pick the truck up and it started right up on the old gas.  it went 100yds to the first stop sign and on acceleration nearly stalled. it continued to stall while accelerating from stops about 50% of the time.  the truck has what i believe to be low power( hard to maintain 70mph on flat, 35mph on steep hills).  i removed the cat converter and replaced plugs, coil, plug wires, dist.cap. fuel pump, fuel filter(and cleaned tank) and still no real gains in performance. since then the truck has begun to cut out around running right hand corners.  sometimes it will dies completely, other times it seems dead but after straightening out it comes back to life usually with a backfire(even if it was cut out for 5-10sec). now a newer problem has begun. the truck drove normal to work(gutless and sputtery around right turns)until i slowed to park. when i slowed, the engine began to run as if out of time. i backed up and parked. after work i started the truck. it idled like it was out of time.  also it was a little smokey. i revved it a bit and drove off. at stops the truck died and restarted very hard(held throttle to the floor).  the engine sounded terribly out of time.  i romped it a bit to keep it running and babied it the whole way home shifting between drive and neutral to keep it running. a few hours after i got home, i went out revved it a bit and it began to run ok again.  i drove it and it runs as if the event never took place however it does feel like it could all of the sudden lose its mind again when i slow to stops. I checked the timing regularly on the truck and it is in.  i have also tested compression in all cylinders using a pressure gauge and accompanying instructions and it read out 165-185 in all cylinders.  i do not hear any noises from the valves or engine compartmant. i have tested the TPS and it checked out good. i replaced the coolant temp sensor and that did not help.  i have run out of ideas and could use some help.  The check engine light has never came on other than for a bulb check and code read outs.  the codes i get are 12 from battery disconnect and it has gone away now that i have done 50 key ons, 33 because it isn't a truck with a/c, and 55 as an end code.  Any ideas why it runs decent accept around some running right turns?  and why did it decide to all of the sudden run like the spark plug wires were mixed up?  how did revving it and letting it sit allow it to recover from such terrible running conditions? I have tested the wiggled all wires tested grounds listened for vacuum leaks and found nothing. my fuel pump and the one it replaced are very loud and can be heard from quite a distance. i dont know if that helps.  any info or ideas would be much help. thanks

Answer
Replacing the injectors and cleaning the throttle body would be a good place to start. Since it sat for so long at it possible that some debris has clogged the injector bores. I would also check the fuel pressure, if memory serves it should be around 15 PSI. You may also want to take a close look at the trigger wheel in the distributor. As I remember the edges would corrode to the point where they wouldn't send a clean signal to the PCM which would result in a condition that resembles yours.
