Dodge Repair: ac blower motor went out..., blower motor resistor, negative battery cable

Question
Kevin,
I was at a red light and had the ac on when all of a sudden it went silent, i thought it was the ac but it's only the first few settings that didn't work...so when I turn it on to the highest level number 4 then it blows out cold air ( so I know the ac works). My question is does my 2002 dodge 1500 quad-cab have two blowers one for the 3 lower setting and one for a higher setting?? if so, I would appreciate if you can let me know what I can do to fix it or is it something that I have to bring to a dealer

Answer
blower motor resistor

REMOVAL
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in an accidental airbag deployment, possible personal injury or death.

CAUTION: Stay clear of the blower motor resistor heat sink (Hot). Do not operate the blower motor with the resistor removed.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
Reach under the instrument panel near the blower motor and disconnect the wire harness connector from the blower motor resistor (Blower Motor Resistor).
Remove the two screws that secure the blower motor resistor to the HVAC housing.
Remove the blower motor resistor from the HVAC housing.
