Dodge Repair: Turn Signals on 2006 Dodge Caravan, auto mechanic shop, 2006 dodge caravan

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I saw a post from last year asking about the same problem we are experiencing with our van ... but I didn't see a posted answer.

Specifically, we have a 2006 Dodge Caravan (Stow n Go) and the turn signals just started malfunctioning. Sometimes they work, sometimes the signal will flash 2 or 3 times and then quit, sometimes they won't work at all, and sometimes the RIGHT turn signal turns on for the LEFT signal ... It's a little exasperating! :) We stopped in at a dealer on the road when this started about a week ago(we were traveling) and they said there is no "flasher" in this model, but rather there is a "control module"--that runs about $300 (and they didn't have it in stock).

It sure seems like it could be some sort of wiring-related problem--maybe a short or a loose ground?

We have friends that had a similar problem with their van (same year and model), and they "fixed" it by leaving on the bright headlights all the time (!). Not exactly the fix I would want to use, as it seems like it could get quite irritating for other drivers, but it also doesn't work with our van. (Although I have noticed that for the RIGHT turn signal, if I turn on the brights and then turn them off as I get ready to signal, that it will *often* work).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much,
Jackie

ANSWER: sounds like a front controller and or an IPM issue.

QUESTION: Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, we don't live in Atlanta--we're in Michigan, so that's a long way for an auto-mechanic shop :)

Can you give me anymore details? Where do I find the "front controller"? What is an "IPM"? Any tips for how to test *which* of these two it might be? (My husband is great with meters and such).

We tried to get a Chilton manual for it so that my husband would have some wiring diagrams and such, but it seems that the vehicle is too "new" still to have very good info.. We heard that it takes 4-5 years after a vehicle is manufactured before you can get good manuals and diagrams (at least for the general public--maybe it's different if you are a mechanic shop).

Thanks for your help,
Jackie

Answer
the IPM and front controller is the fuse box under the hood and the silver computer that is attaches to it. U wont be able to test it correctly due to them being mated together and U don't have a dealer scanner to turn each item on. I can do the front controller first  4 screws and pop in the new one. The ipm is a but more  with all the connectors that is attached to it.
