Dodge Repair: 2001 town and country lxi cpm, limp home, black key

Question
QUESTION: I have 2001 w/ 3.8ltr front wheel drive.  Has been running very erratic with speedometer going crazy and cruise control light come on and off. I had the codes read at a service center and the PCM is not comunucating at times. Read ok when runnIng fine then does not read when misfires. The decoder said bad PCM.
I was going to replace the PCM but found out that even if I get one it has to be reprogrammed on the van.
I have searched for the PCM on the net and some say they can preprogram it from the VIN. Is that true or does it still have to be programed once installed.  Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: if u get a new PCM it will need to be programed  if u get a used one u run the risk of doing more harm then good.
Whats the prob to begin with?I live in Atlanta and I can look at it for u.

QUESTION: the site is http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/ It sounds really good and that it comes preprogrammed for my specific vehicle.  I live in Illinois but thanks.

The initial problem was stumbling during acceleration and the speedometer going nuts. Now it may run ok or barely limp home coughing and sputtering with gauges going nuts.

Answer
its looks ok  I have never used them b4  so  if its good let me know    do u have a gray key or a black key? There is a TSB for the stumble when first starting off. Look for 18-008-02.
The cruise could be any number of things  but i u say that the PCM will not commutate  then go with that  I am not there to say for sure.
