Dodge Repair: 2000 dodge dakota 4.7 camshaft sesor location, camshaft position sensor, ft lbs torque

QUESTION: i am having trouble finding the darn thing, the computer says it is failing, but i cannot locate it.  What are the steps to switch this out.

ANSWER: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - 4.7L V-8 ENGINE
REMOVAL
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located at the right-rear side of the engine cylinder block CKP Sensor Location/Removal/Installation - 4.7L V - 8 Engine It is positioned and bolted into a machined hole in the engine block

Disconnect CKP electrical connector at sensor.
Remove CKP mounting bolt CKP Sensor Location/Removal/Installation - 4.7L V - 8 Engine
Carefully pry sensor from cylinder block in a rocking action with two small screwdrivers.
Remove sensor from vehicle.
Check condition of sensor o-ring.
INSTALLATION
Clean out machined hole in engine block.
Apply a small amount of engine oil to sensor o-ring.
Install sensor into engine block with a slight rocking action. Do not twist sensor into position as damage to o-ring may result
CAUTION: Before tightening sensor mounting bolt, be sure sensor is completely flush to cylinder block. If sensor is not flush, damage to sensor mounting tang may result.

Install mounting bolt and tighten to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.) torque.
Connect electrical connector to sensor.

QUESTION: Just to clarify, I have a camshaft sensor, not a crankshaft sensor that went bad.  According to the parts people here, my truck has both sensors, and they are priced very differently.  Are they supposed to be one in the same?
I see what I think you are talking about and can reach it just past the passenger front tire well, but the bolt position looks shorter on the new one then what is on the pickup; I would really hate to pull the wrong sensor off.

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - 4.7L ENGINE
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.7L V - 8 engine is bolted to the front/top of the right cylinder head CMP Location - 4.7L Engine

REMOVAL
It is easier to remove/install sensor from under vehicle.

Raise and support vehicle.
Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor CMP Location - 4.7L Engine
Remove sensor mounting bolt CMP Location - 4.7L Engine
Carefully pry sensor from cylinder head in a rocking action with two small screwdrivers.
Check condition of sensor o-ring.
INSTALLATION
Clean out machined hole in cylinder head.
Apply a small amount of engine oil to sensor o-ring.
Install sensor into cylinder head with a slight rocking action. Do not twist sensor into position as damage to o-ring may result

Install mounting bolt and tighten to 12 N·m (106 in. lbs.) torque.
Connect electrical connector to sensor.
Lower vehicle.
