Dodge Repair: anti theft, drb, atlanta area

My son removed the key from our 2003 caravan without fully tuerning it off.  Now our antitheft light comes on and our van stops running after a few miles. There is still power but it does not turn over.  After sitting for a few hours it will start again then go a few miles then shut down.  We do not lose electrical power just quits running.

how can he take the key out with out shutting off the van?
This kinda anti theft will need to be messed with by the dealer no shop can mess with it but them or someone that has a DRB scanner.I live in the Atlanta area if u would like I can look at this for you.
