Dodge Repair: engine quits while driving, dakota 4x4, dodge dakota

Question
Weston, I'm told that a 1987 doesn't have a module except within the computer, but a Pick up sensor within the distributor. I pulled the cap off and found the rotor and main shaft rusted plus the contacts burnt. Any further advise?

Thanks

Paul

Question -
I have a 1987 Dodge Dakota 4x4 V6. It normally starts and runs okay except that recently the motor will completely quit like it was shut off while driving. It starts again sometimes immediately but sometimes not and had to wait five or ten minutes. Can you help? Unrelated to this, the 4x4 indicator light at the lever stays on all the time when not engaged. How do I track that down?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,
Both problems are probably in your single unit control module control module.  You are probable going to have to replace it.

Answer
Hi Paul,
If there is that much damage in the distributor then I would replace the distributor with a rebuilt one.  At Auto Zone the distributors run between $50 to $68.
I looked it up and you are right the 87 didn't have a control module.  It's all located in the distributor.
