Dodge Repair: dodge truck wont start now, powertrain control module, gas milage

hi, i have a 2001 4x4 pickup with 360 gasoline engine. Was running perfect. then started it up and it would run for a few seconds then die out. now it just cranks over - wont start at all. code on odometer is 'no buss'. Took to dealer. they say I need a new powertrain control module and a catylatic converter.  Is there anything I can do myself to narrow it down - and maybe fix it. oh yeah, there is 1/2 tank of gas left in the tank.

I need a bit more information.  Was the truck getting less gas milage than it did before.  Was there an exhost leak before it quit running.  Is the engine fuel injected or EFI.  Are you getting fuel.  Are you getting fire to the Spark plugs.
You can go down to the public library and check out a chilton's repair manual.  This manual will tell you which pins to ohm out on the PCM.  If you get abnormal readings then your PCM is bad.
