Dodge Repair: DODGE DURANGO 2001, clothes hanger, cotter pin

Question
How do I install front brake pads ? How do I use C clamp for piston?

Answer
Hi,
You remove the front wheels after jacking up the front of the vehicle.  USE JACK STANDS that are approved for the weight of your vehicle.  Never get under a car using only a jack.  There is a star head bolt on the caliper you will have to remove this bolt.  take a wrench and loosen the bleeder valve.  Remove the caliper, take a peice of old clothes hanger and hang the caliper on something so there is no weight on the hose.  Remove the dust cap in the center of the wheel.  Remove the cotter pin from the bolt in the center.  Remove the nut.  Then remove the roter.  These both have to be taken to a machine shop and be turned or replaced.  You can use a C-clamp to push the piston into the caliper.  However if you open the bleeder valve you should be able to push the piston in with your hands.  Take the springs out and remove the old brake pads.  To replace them put them back in the way you took them out.  Only this time there is a place on the caliper where the brake pads slide back and forth as you apply the brakes.  There will be a small tube of greese in the box with the new pads.  If not buy one.  You need to put some of this greese on the place where the pads slide back and forth.  Take great care not to get any of this greese on the face of the new brake pads.  to put them back on reverse this procedure.
(PS) If you don't turn or replace the rotors the vehicle will have a jumpping motion when you apply the brakes.
