Dodge Repair: 1998 Dodge Caravan starter, haynes repair manual, haynes manual

Question
I have a 2.4 liter Caravan.  Three times in the last week I tried to start it, heard a click (not multiple clicks) turned the key off, tried again and it started. Not all I get is the click.  Tried jumping it to no avail.  I would imagine it is the starter and I'm tempted to replace it my self. Is this complicated?

Answer
Hi,
No, this is not a very complicated task.  The bast thing to do is go down to a discount parts repair store.  Get a starter, they will charge you a core charge.  The core charge is refunded when you return the old starter.
However the starter is not the problem.  The problem is the starter solonoid.  It is mounted on the top of your starter and is a great deal less expensive than a starter.
I would go to the parts store and get a soloniod and a Haynes repair manual that covers your vehicle, this can also be used for future repairs if needed.  The manual will explain, in very sinple language, how to replace the soloniod.
The first step is to disconnect your battery for at laest 5 minutes before starting any repair on any electrical parts.  If you hit the wrong thing or unpluge the wrong thing you can set off the airbags. or damage the Drive Train Control Module
The Haynes manual is made for the do it yourself mechanic.
