Dodge Repair: ECM, obd ii code reader, obd ii code

Question
I have a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravn. It died on me about 2 weeks ago and I had it towed to a shop I use. He determand that it was the fuel pump. The old pump was not pumping properly when tested. He put in a new pump but the van would still not start. He was getting codes of any type from a snap on code reader and also ran a test on all relays, pump, fans etc that the test will check on a system check. Everything came up O K. He thought that it might be the ECM (computer) and borrowed one from a parts store he deals with, and the van started and ran but shut off after 3-5 seconds. It continues to do this and thought that it was the after market alarm (Ungo box) shutting it down with the immoblizer. We disconected the alram power and the van still die. We called the local Chrysler dealer and they explained that the computer that was put in may be for a van that has a factory alarm and my van does not. They said that once this new computer was put in the computer will shut down as there are no other parts to the alarm in the vehicle so the computer shuts down the van. They also said that you can not errase the memmory to the sensors, modules etc. in the van as they have learnt the system of the new computer and will not go back to the original settings. Someone told me that there night be a by-pass (interface/transponder) availible to correct this problem. The dealer said that I would have to bring in the van and they would replace all module and relays that meet the new computer at a cost of approx $3500.

Do you have any iedas.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

Answer
Take the old Drive train control module (DTCM) off get a rebuilt one from a discount parts store.  Replace the old one.  Snap on the OBD II code reader and erase all of the codes that come up as malfunctioning.  The new DTCM will then learn the old sensors and should run again.  Make sure that the part numbers match on the new DTCM.
